Program notes:

 

"Something understands," breathes the screen is very much related to a larger work of mine (...empty spun-sugar shibboleth...). Issues of desired performative impossibility and overwhelm, ensemble communication and vocalizations are explored. Here is the use of a video score, where the pianist is instructed to mimic and assimilate simultaneous, disparate physical actions in real time, is used to shape and influence perceptual prowess.
